  • Biography

Umberto Ravaioli obtained Laurea Dr. degrees in Electronics Engineering (1980) and Physics (1982) from the University of Bologna, Italy, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (1986) from Arizona State University. Since 1986 he has been with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he is now Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Senior Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs in the College of Engineering. His research interests have evolved from fiber optics measurements and microwave design to physical simulation of semiconductor devices and large-scale computation, with an emphasis on Monte Carlo particle simulation. Recently, he has been mostly involved with coupled electro-thermal simulation of nanoscale silicon devices, charge transport in biological systems, and development of cyberinfrastructure for research and education. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP) and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
